Effective Monday, January 13, 2014, the Syracuse University Libraries will require an SU/ESF ID for Waverly Avenue entrance to Bird Library beginning at 8 p.m. At that time, Libraries security staff and floor monitors will also check the IDs of everyone already in the building. Anyone without an ID will be required to leave.
To ensure that unaffiliated people do not enter before the automatic door opener closes and secures the door, security staff will be monitoring the entrance closely. There will also be recurrent, 100 percent ID checks throughout the evening. While this may seem intrusive at first, this added security precaution will help further secure Bird Library as a safe work space for students and other members of the SU and ESF communities.
Under the new rules, Bird Library will be open to those unaffiliated with the University until 8 p.m. most days. Building hours are otherwise unchanged for the spring 2014 semester.
