This fall, from October 15th through October 17th, the Library will undergo an external peer review. Jim Neal, Dean of Libraries at Columbia University, will lead the team, and he will be joined by Jeff Horrell from Dartmouth, William Walker from the University of Miami, and Sara Lowman from Rice University, along with Joan Lippincott of the Coalition for Networked Information.
The purpose of the review is to assess the Library’s effectiveness as a partner in the teaching and research mission of Syracuse University. The review report will aim to identify directions that will help to formulate a common agenda for the future, especially in light of the transformational change occurring in libraries and higher education.
To ensure that reviewers hear the voices of the faculty, an open discussion and reception for faculty has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 16th from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. in the Peter Graham Room in Bird Library. Please RSVP to Kelley Parker at email@example.com by October 12th.
In preparation for the review, the Library completed a self-study that the review team will use as background. Two print copies are available on reserve in the Library Administration office in Bird Library. In addition, members of the Senate Library Committee will meet with the review team on Monday, October 15th. For those who cannot attend the meeting on October 16th, but wish to have concerns/information conveyed to the review team, please contact a member of the Senate Library Committee.
