In the Biblio Gallery: works by Eugenie Michelle Giasson and Brigitta Stoner

Photographs and jewelry by Eugenie Michelle Giasson and jewelry by Brigitta Stoner are now installed in the Biblio Gallery, located on the 4th floor of Bird Library. Giasson is a graduate student in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) at Syracuse University pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in jewelry and metalsmithing. Stoner is a senior in VPA.
In her artist statement, Giasson writes, “Jewelry and clothing have long been used as a visual parameter of a person’s social class and status. Personal meaning and value is conferred on objects that are not intrinsically their own. The exploration of social and cultural codification reveals the human struggle for balance and grace.”
Stoner says of her work, “Jewelry has the potential to be so much more than simply ornamental. Throughout history, small, wearable sculpture has carried religious and social meaning as well as personal sentiments. It is important in today’s society of mass produced goods to select items that are meaningful and thought provoking.”
An opening reception will held from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18th. The Biblio Gallery hours correspond with those of the 4th floor; for library hours, see The display will be in place until September 17.
