Souvenirs are artifacts of journeys made, pieces of sites once visited. They reflect the heritage of place, conveying the pride and diversity of attractions, often relying on stereotypes to distill their subject’s marketable essence. T-shirts, mugs, and frisbees are examples of the functional souvenir; more subtle are those objects destined for workspaces or window shelves, small and unassuming. They often mimic functional objects such as cups and vases, but so small as to be practically useless to serve as such. Relatively cheap and easily slipped in pocket or luggage for transport home, the exhibit explores the joy that is the minuscule memory.
All materials appearing in this exhibit are from a private collection.
